Anthony B. McDowell, MD, FACOG




Dr. Tony McDowell was born in Victoria, Texas in 1962. He was raised on the family farm and today, his family continues to be involved in ranching in Jackson County.

Dr. McDowell graduated from Edna High School in 1981. He went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then went to medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and graduated in top 10% of his class. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Following medical school, he completed his OB-GYN training at Scott and White Memorial Hospital and Texas A&M University Health Science Center. While there he developed an interest in gynecologic oncology and pelvic reconstructive surgery.

After completing his residency, Dr. McDowell came to Victoria in July 1994 and joined the Victoria Women's Clinic. He was the first physician in Victoria to perform a total laparoscopy hysterectomy and laparoscopy prolapse repair. Today he has performed over 400 such procedures. He has now also developed extensive training in robotic surgery. In 2010, he and his colleagues developed a Robotics Program at DeTar North and Citizens Medical Center. His other interests include obstetrics, general gynecology, infertility, incontinence, and non-incision office procedures including Essure sterilization.

Dr. Tony McDowell is Board certified from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a Fellow of the Texas Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was nominated by the readers of the Victoria Advocate as the best OB-GYN in 2010.

His office is located at 2705 Hospital Drive, Suite 300 in Specialty Building B. He has privileges at Citizens Medical Center, DeTar Women and Children's Hospital, and DeTar Navarro Hospital.
