On July
6, 2009 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) posted
updated guidelines on pregnant women infected with novel influenza A
(H1N1) (formerly known as swine flu) for obstetric settings http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/guidance/obstetric.htm.
On June 30
CDC released new guidelines for clinicians on treatment of pregnant
women with H1N1 at
http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/clinician_pregnant.htm.
CDC's highest priority
message is to "treat pregnant women with influenza-like illness as
soon as possible; treatment should not be withheld pending results
of testing for influenza, if testing is done." CDC
states that "case reports of adverse pregnancy
outcomes and maternal deaths have been associated with severe
illness."
The College Resource Center has
compiled a list (WebTreats) of resources on H1N1.
